Despite the fact that marriage is held high in the United States, many people do not honor their vows. Believe it or not, its just not husbands but also wives. Statistics reveal that women 40-50% of women have some form of affair during their relationships. According to report by Bloomsberg Businessweek, the most recent data from the National Opinion Research Center’s General Social Survey show that women have had more affairs in the past two decades then in previous years. The percentage of men who admitted to infidelity stayed at a constant 21% while the percentage of cheating wives rose from 14.7% in 2010 to above 40% in 2013. One in six wives admitted to cheating on their husbands.
The changing cultural and economic climate in America is one of the potential reasons for the increase in female infidelity. With higher incomes and more job opportunities, women can afford the potential consequences of an affair. For the first time in history, they have more economical independence. With financial independence and the rise of social media, cheating has become easier.
Women are genetically less prone to infidelity than man. From an evolutionary prospective, the risk arising from infidelity being discovered is far greater. Cheating women do so very discretely and in a very planned manner which makes it difficult for their partners to prove.
Other advantages women have in their favor when it comes to infidelity are their intuitive sense and their natural ability in communication skills. Studies shown that even though men lie more often than women, women are actually much better at it. They are able to think thru the process with theories and alibis if confronted. It has also been shown that women are much more capable at looking straight in the person’s eye while telling their lies.
